Overview

In this course, delegates learn about relational principles of an Oracle database. The class also covers how to query data and how to use iSQL*Plus to format query output.
Prerequisites
Delegates should be familiar with data processing concepts and techniques. Graphical user interface (GUI) experience is also required.
Delegates will learn how to
- Use iSQL*Plus to execute SQL statements
- Retrieve data in an Oracle database
- Describe the relational aspects of Oracle database management systems

WRITING BASIC SQL STATEMENTS
Listing the capabilities of SQL SELECT statements; Executing a basic SELECT statement; Differentiating between SQL statements and iSQL*Plus statements
RESTRICTING AND SORTING DATA
Limiting the rows retrieved by a Query; Sorting the rows retrieved by a Query
SINGLE-ROW NUMBER AND CHARACTER FUNCTIONS
Describing the various types of functions available in SQL; Using character and number functions in SELECT statements
SINGLE-ROW DATE AND CONVERSION FUNCTIONS
Using SYSDATE in conjunction with SELECT statements; Arithmetic operations with dates; Describing conversion functions available in SQL; Using date functions in SELECT statements
DISPLAYING DATA FROM MULTIPLE TABLES
Writing SELECT statements using equality and nonequality joins to access data from more than one table; Describing the cartesian product; Joining a table to itself; Natural join and cross join
