This intensive course is intended for IT professionals who already have a through knowledge of SQL in another relational database environment, but who are now working in an Oracle environment, including Application Developers, System Analysts, Database Administrators and Technical Support Personnel. This course gives delegates an understanding of Oracle’s relational and object relational database management systems through the powerful SQL language. The SQL commands, functions and operators supported by oracle as extensions to standard SQL are emphasised. Delegates learn to create and maintain database objects such as tables, indices, views, constraints and sequences. Delegates also learn to store and retrieve by using advanced techniques such as grouping sets, SET operators and hierarchical retrieval. Delegates also learn how to manipulate data. Finally, delegates learn to write SQL script files using iSQL*Plus tool and to generate report-like output.
Prerequisites
Delegates must have a thorough working knowledge of standard ANSI SQL or SQL in another relational database environment. Familiarity with relational database concepts is also required.
Delegates will learn how to
- Describe the Oracle database architecture
- Use the Oracle 9i single row and group functions
- Retrieve information from the Oracle data dictionary Use iSQL*Plus commands to enhance reporting
- Review Oracle SELECT statement syntax to retrieve data
- Retrieve data by using advanced techniques such as subqueries, SET operators, hierarchical queries and Grouping sets
- Create and maintain database objects such as tables, views, indices, sequences and constraints
- Control user access to the database objects and data
- Write SQL script to generate SQL script files
- Use the Oracle9i extensions for data manipulation and data definition language statements
- Control transactions (commit, rollback and savepoint)
