Overview
One of the challenges for a growing enterprise has been the acquisition and development of a suitable IT infrastructure. To meet the needs of the business in the early days you need a modest but reliable system. As the organisation grows you are faced with the problem of increasing your IT capacity. This can often involve a complete restructuring of not only your software investment but also replacement of all your hardware.
Oracle 10g and grid computing aims to solve this problem by providing a scalable system that can be added to incrementally using low cost hardware running the industry-renowned Linux operating system. Your hardware investment is reused and as your needs grow you can add power in small steps. This is the essence of grid computing.
Making the system low cost in terms of hardware and operating systems does not help if other costs of running the system increase with the load. Oracle has worked hard to ease the management and administration of its latest database release. Your Database Administrator (DBA) can spend less time on detailed server maintenance and be able to take a more proactive role in helping you to run and grow your business. Your database continues to provide the standard features of reliability, security and performance that have been the hallmark of Oracle for decades.
