This course introduces delegates to administering Discoverer 4.1, which is a part of Oracle 9i Developer suite. As a Discoverer administrator, delegates learn to create and customise the End User Layer (EUL), to create business areas and folders, and to define analytical facilities for end users. Delegates also learn to grant and control user access to the End User Layer (EUL), and use Oracle 8i materialised views and automated summary management in Discoverer 4.1.

Prerequisites

Delegates should have completed course D41U, Discoverer for End Users and SPLi, Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL.

Delegates will learn how to

  • Design, create, maintain and control user access to the End User Layer (EUL)

INTRODUCTION TO ORACLE DISCOVERER 4.1 ADMINISTRATION:

Positioning discoverer in Oracle?s internet platform; differentiating data warehouse and OLTP systems; using Oracle discoverer with data warehouses; integrating Oracle discoverer with business intelligence tools – describing discoverer components; discussing discoverer for Windows and the Web; identifying key terminology; outlining the role of the data administrator; outlining the training business areas and data models; creating the end user layer and business areas; creating the initial EUL; designing a business area; identifying and selecting objects to import; creating and loading meta data into a business area; customising a business area; exporting and importing; granting user access to a business area; controlling user privileges and properties; defining data access requirements for end users and administrators
