This course introduces delegates to the querying and analytical capabilities of Oracle Discoverer Plus Release 4.1 (also known as Oracle Discoverer Desktop Edition) and Oracle Discoverer 4i Plus. Delegates will learn to create, modify, run, and refine ad hoc queries. They will learn to view, chart, and analyse multidimensional data. They will be able to use analytic functions for advanced analysis. They will also learn to produce individual ad hoc reports, and schedule the reports in batch mode, share workbooks with other users, and export reports to other applications.

Prerequisites

Delegates should be familiar with Web browsers and Microsoft Windows applications.

Delegates will learn how to

DISCOVERER CONCEPTS AND THE TRAINING:

Identifying the concepts and components of Oracle Discoverer 4.1; explaining the role of the Oracle Discoverer 4.1 Administrator; connecting to Discoverer plus; describing Discoverer support for Oracle applications and Oracle 9i AS 1.0.2.1

CREATING AD HOC QUERIES:

Using the workbook wizard; creating a query and viewing output customising the viewing output

MANAGING QUERIES:

Building and executing queries; controlling query execution; customising worksheets; managing workbooks; setting advanced options

CUSTOMISING DISPLAY PROPERTIES:

Customising heading, page, and data properties; formatting numbers and setting background; creating exceptions

APPLYING CONDITIONS AND USING PARAMETERS:

Overview of conditions and parameters; selecting and applying predefined conditions; creating conditions; creating complex conditions; creating parameters; creating parameterised conditions

CREATING SUBQUERIES:

Distinguishing a simple sub_query from a correlated sub_query; creating a simple sub_query condition; creating a correlated sub_query condition

CREATING GROUP SORTS AND APPLYING SUMMARIES FUNCTIONS:

Creating a group sort output; including totals and subtotals in results; creating percentages

CREATING CALCULATED ITEMS:

Identifying types of calculations; creating simple and complex calculated items; modifying a calculation; passing parameters to calculations; applying simple and complex functions

CREATING CALCULATED ITEMS USING ANALYTICAL FUNCTIONS:

Overview of analytical functions; using the analytical function template; using ranking, banding, windowing and lag/lead functions

SCHEDULING AND MANAGING REPORTS IN BATCH MODE:

Scheduling reports; using the scheduling manager

ANALYSING DATA WITH DRILLS:

Identifying the drill types; displaying detailed or summarised information using drills; using the drill dialog box options; drilling to a related item; drilling directly with hyperdrills; drilling to external applications

ANALYSING DATA GRAPHICALLY:

Creating graphs; customising graphs; drilling within a graph; graph types; modifying titles and legends

IMPORTING AND EXPORTING REPORTS AND COMMAND LINE INTERFACE:

Exporting reports to Excel, HTML, Notepad, or Oracle reports; sending workbooks via e-mail; exporting and importing SQL; using the command-line interface

DISCOVERER FOR THE WEB:

Starting Discoverer 4i Plus; overview of Discoverer 4i Plus window; opening workbooks; drilling data; creating workbooks; applying format masks; using workbook-level parameters

EXPORTING AND CHARTING WITH DISCOVERER 4I PLUS:

Charting data; positioning a graph; exporting results to Excel, HTML, Notepad
