Overview
he Microsoft Dynamics NAV paradigm shift of introducing the role based client and replacing the NAV Database Server option with the Microsoft SQL Server option, at least in the long run, requires new and existing partners to acquire new skills in order to be able to deliver premium services to customers.
A part of this new skill-set required, is to be able to troubleshoot and optimize the interface between NAV and SQL Server, since the SQL Server option differs significantly from the NAV Database Server option in a number of ways.
First step in this optimization process is to make sure that the SQL Server is optimized even without the use of NAV. Next step is to make sure that NAV is communicating with SQL Server in an optimal manner and this covers both new development and troubleshooting and maintenance of existing installations.
The steps above require fundamental knowledge of SQL Server and off course in-depth knowledge of how NAV is interfacing with SQL Server. The aim of the course is to bring this knowledge to the students, bringing them a step further on the road of the NAV paradigm shift.
Audience
The intended audience for this course is partners wanting to learn how to troubleshoot and optimize the interface between NAV and SQL Server.
The class is targeted towards developers, consultants and implementers who need to understand the interface between NAV and SQL Server to be able to develop efficient customizations or maintain existing installations with unacceptable performance.
Delegates will learn how to
- Perform fundamental configurations of SQL Server 2005.
- Clearly identify the steps needed to install and setup the NAV SQL Server option.
- Convert an existing NAV Database Server database to a SQL Server database.
- Understand the fundamentals of Transact-SQL and use this knowledge to optimize NAV
- C/AL Code.
- Use SQL Profiler to troubleshoot performance issues.
- Optimize key usage and C/AL code in NAV by using existing and new properties and
- C/AL commands.
- Replace inefficient C/AL code with highly efficient Transact-SQL commands executed
- directly on SQL Server via the automation server functionality in NAV.
- Use different tools for troubleshooting and optimizing performance in NAV, e.g. client
- monitor and code coverage.
