Xpertise strengthens its environmental credentials with greener training and marketing materials
08 February 2008
Leading training company Xpertise has revised its course materials and marketing policies to support a more rigorous environmental policy.
Like all training companies, Xpertise provides delegates attending training courses with course information to take away with them. Traditionally, these have largely been on paper, and usually packed in environmentally unfriendly polypropylene – which takes a long time to degrade in landfill sites.
“Clearly, we need to provide our customers with these materials,” say Xpertise’s commercial director Bill Walker, “but we can choose how those materials are provided – and in some cases, remove the use of paper or other materials entirely.”
With immediate effect, Xpertise’s own branded course materials will be shrink-wrapped, instead of the standard bulky polypropylene kits boxes, and all non-essential items have been removed. “As one of the UK’s leading training providers, we hand out literally thousands of packs of course materials each year – we see this as our responsibility to make these as environmentally friendly as we can. The paper we use, where we use it, adheres to Xerox’s environmental policy of using paper from sustainable resources – which can have less of an environmental impact than using recycled paper – and having strict limits on the use of hazardous materials in its production, such as elemental chlorine.”
Xpertise’s marketing materials have also recently undergone an environmental rethink. “We’ve stopped producing our massive, printed training catalogue and we now use our Web site to fulfil the same role,” says Walker. “Also, where possible, we now create promotional materials and brochures using Adobe PDFs – this not only removes the need for paper, it also gets the information to our customers much more quickly. We now also assess any printing company that we use to make sure that their work meets our environmental policy.”
